Say 01:49
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome aboard Bluechips Airlines flight 2020, bound for Vancouver, B.C. Canada, with continued service to a better life in another country. This is the Captain speaking, and in preparation for our departure today, we’d like to ask that you please extinguish all flammable items and return your seats and tray tables into their upright and locked position. If you take a look outside the cabin, you’ll notice that an ironic and dystopian smog has permeated the entire sky. Coincidentally, this year has been one of the most confusing, tumultuous, and uncertain years of our entire lives. Therefore, this album is a demonstration of how each of us individually coped with a global pandemic, the impeachment of our president, a stock market crash, the nationwide protests against the oppression of Black Americans, massive wildfires spanning the length of the west coast, and an impending election that could tip the fate of our country for the rest of time. As we come through the cabin for our final safety checks, please let us know if you have any questions. We ask that you listen to this album in headphones, and the highest audio quality available, as we’ve crafted this album to be experienced that way. Once again, welcome aboard Bluechips Airlines flight 2020 from New York to Vancouver B.C. Canada, and thank you for flying with The Bluechips.

Go Blind 06:03
I feel like getting out of here Oh, I am tired of living in fear I'll bring both the boys We'll make all the noise And maybe the worries subside Say Goodbye More people will die An eye for an eye Make the whole world go blind Time is but a passing thing Oh, its time recycling humanity Now I've got to go 'Cause I don't want to know What is left when the country implodes Do you still believe in A United States of reason? Mere questions labeled treason Will soon relinquish all your freedom Say Goodbye, Say Goodbye I'll catch the redeye Let me down one too many times I don't wanna know what comes next at the end of the road

Do you know you’re in the hands Of a man that don’t give a damn? Lighten up if you can It’s the end and there’s no plan Tossing, turning it’s not working I can’t stop the world from burning Love us, hate us Someone save us Please, we’re on our knees It’s a trick, a sleight of man Watch the eye, but not the hand Listen up, as you graze Nod your head and dig your grave Tossing, turning it’s not working I can’t stop the world from burning Love us, hate us Someone save us Please we’re on our knees

Journey Man 03:28
I think I need a vacation from myself Our minds collecting dust on the shelf And we only have ourselves to blame I want to be a journey man Imprisoned is all I am We forgot how it feels to breathe A different kind of air This land became a puppeteer Stringing us up with all its fear and you said We won't stay another year Welcome to the obscurity A false sense of security Has been eating its way at me Is it too much too avoid? We're lost in the void (Say Goodbye) I'm afraid the only way is down my dear We're lost in the void (Say Goodbye) I'm afraid we're circling the drain my dear We're circling down that drain endlessly I want to be a journey man Imprisoned is all I am We forgot how it feels to breathe A different kind of air I want to be a journey man Reclusion is all I can seem to grasp today And it's okay Welcome to the obscurity

Voices 04:49
Bitin' off all I can chew Experience, I have a breakthrough Simple to me, not simple to you Me by night and you by day Who will I be today? If I'm lucky It will be me Fightin' off all the voices Spiting me, unwelcome choices Leave me alone, just leave me be Do you want Jack or Jill or both? Darling, we can only hope that you're friendly That you're friendly to me Fighting off all the voices Spiting me unwelcome choices Fighting off all the voices Spiting me unwelcome choices

I’m just a boy in an ordinary world Me and mom and dad We don’t have a reason to be sad In our world, where nothing seems to change Morning, noon, and night Day to day it always stays the same I’m living in a dream Relishing the ignorance of childhood and possibility Boy, you’re a gem, your eyes are wide and bright If only they could understand The world you know is changing overnight It’s the truth and you will come to find The things that make you sad Might be the only things that never leave your side I want to run and hide Once we pull the shade you’ll feel A difference when the tears come to your eyes Please don’t tell me That we’re leaving 'cause I don’t want to know the feeling of Hours spent that I repent Believing all that I’ve been seeing Son, the time has come From here you’re on your own Welcome to the hardest thing From which your soul will grow Pack your things, let’s go Hide in your headphones Every note and lyric spoke Will mend your aching soul Say goodbye I’ll play the fool act like world ain’t upside down If you’ll let me off the ground I’ll be the pawn and walk the line to ease your doubt I know I’m not getting out I don’t think you want the best for me Drowning in your insecurity Standing on my head to catch your breath Reach out for the life preserver And take your weight up off my shoulders Tell everyone you saved yourself Lean your head back, try to relax Never let them own your reflex Forward motion, magic potions Solving all your deepest quotients Psychedelia, let me feel the Aches in all your safest places Moving through you, as you come to Realizing what life has brought you Take the driver's seat and turn the key To set your mind and heart free Your cognition craves ignition Shed your given disposition No one owns you, they won’t show you Right from wrong or love they owe you It’s your coffin, that’s a promise Save yourself or you won’t stop this I’m just a boy and as I start to age The ordinary world I knew Becomes a crumpled torn and tattered page It’s abused, embodied by the lines I can barely read them Though the margin still stayed sewn into the spine

Goodbye 00:41
Ladies and Gentleman as you exit the aircraft, we suggest that you lean into the unpredictable nature of life and try not to sweat the small stuff, cause you never know when you’re gonna say goodbye.

about

In February of 2020, The Bluechips began recording a batch of longer compositions for release by the end of the year. As the global and domestic catastrophes began to unfold, progress on the album became more and more restricted. With their native New York State on "pause", each sparse session was an opportunity for the band to cope while capturing their reactions to the year's increasingly turbulent series of events. On November 13th, their conceptual second LP “Say Goodbye”, was released. Lyrically, the album contemplated the current and future state of the planet from the aerial perspective of an airplane. Visually, Art Director Benjamin Lieber was able to tie the music and concept together in a way that awarded each listener an emotional and cinematic experience akin to the monumental concept albums meticulously crafted by their classic rock heroes.

Basic Tracks* recorded February 2020 at Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY.
All overdubs recorded and mixed March-October 2020 at Armless Man Studios, Hawthorne, NY.

Jake Albi - Vocals, Drums, Keyboards
Tom Davis - Bass, Vocals, Keyboards
